Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the importance of teaching LIBRAS for the practice of medical professionals in their health care, considering professional reports. Communication in a medical care is of paramount importance, and in view of the integrality of the care that should be provided, patients who have hearing impairment need to be received health care with the accessibility and use of the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS). Communication in LIBRAS favors the identification of signs and symptoms of this patient. Faced with situations in which the health professional, especially physicians, who do not dominate LIBRAS, the care is weakened and compromised. Thus, the incorporation of LIBRAS in the process of training medical students is an indispensable requirement for successful action and for the process of inclusion, approximation, and construction of trust with patients with special hearing needs. The methodology used in the construction of this study is the deductive method, assisted by literature review as a primary research technique.
