RISCOS E COMPLICAÇÕES DA DIABETES MELLITUS DESCOMPENSADA:
A IMPORTÂNCIA DA ABORDAGEM INTERDISCIPLINAR E DA ADESÃO AO TRATAMENTO
Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic syndrome that affects millions of people worldwide and is defined primarily by hyperglycemia. Due to the large number of affected people, it is necessary to elucidate the importance of effective treatment to avoid the most severe complications of this chronic disease. The objectives of this article were: elucidate the causes by which the treatment of diabetes cannot be overlooked, focusing on the complications of decompensated DM for the individual and explaining the main suggested forms of treatment, in addition to factors that lead to the predisposition to DM, the clinical and non-clinical aspects of the disease, the types of DM and how the lifestyle change (LC) can improve the patient's quality of life. Studies related to the subject were searched in several databases, including the World Health Organization (WHO) website, and the relevant materials were selected. After the analysis of the materials, it was observed that negligence in the treatment of DM predisposes to several complications, such as: hyperinsulinemia, microalbuminuria, dyslipidemias, coagulation defects, endothelial dysfunctions, hepatic steatosis, hyperglycemia, atherosclerosis, systemic arterial hypertension, coronary artery disease, visceral obesity, renal failure, blindness, gangrene, limbs amputation, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic ketoacidosis, and other severe consequences. Moreover, it was observed that the interdisciplinary team that plans the treatment is quite variable, being able to integrate professionals from various health areas. Finally, it is observed that, according to the selected studies, the treatment of patients with DM should be traced by an interdisciplinary team and should be taken seriously both by the patient and by his support network, given the serious consequences of neglect.
